NFTs: Meet Yuliia Neherchuk, the Creative Who Creates in Spite Of All

Windy” from the “Girls of the Cartoon Universe” Collection on OpenSea

“When the ‘froth’ around NFT technology settles, it should take an important place in the new digital economy, becoming a full-fledged means of protecting intellectual property.” Yuliia Nehrchuk

In our next NFT artist profile, we meet an artist from war-torn Ukraine. While 9.1 million refugees have fled their country, our next artist is staying in her homeland and creating art in spite of the war. She won’t let anything get in the way of her creative spirit.

Using the Ethereum blockchain as her vehicle, she has created over 100 illustrations and sold out three collections.

I am excited to present an interview with our next artist, Yuliia Neherchuk!

Who is Yuliia Neherchuk?

Who is Yuliia Neherchuk?

“From an investment point of view, the NFT market is more liquid than the traditional art market, because the participants of the transaction don’t have to pay 5–10% commissions to brokers. So I think that economically NFT founders, those who survive, will be the most stable and independent.” Yuliia Neherchuk

Yuliia is a 28 year-old vector artist from Khmelnytskyi, Ukraine. Vector artists use clean lines and shapes that can be scaled to any size. She’s been a professional illustrator for the past 12 years and is also a fashion designer by profession.

You can follow her on Twitter, and find her art on OpenSea and Foundation.

A Closer Look

I reached out to Yuliia to get a closer look into her heart and mind so I could find out about her personal views. Here is what she had to say:

1. How and when did you get into art?

I have drawn from the earlier times in childhood I can remember. I had hundreds of sketches at home, and I drew girls. By the way nothing has changed. 🙂

I have been engaged professionally in art since the beginning of my studies at university. There I studied fashion design and started studying drawing, painting, anatomy, art history and other subjects.

2. What inspires you to create?

I am inspired by films, history, myths, legends, I am very much inspired by other artists. In our space I think that’s the most inspiring thing, that you’re surrounded by creativity completely

3. What is the biggest barrier you face as an artist?

The barrier for me is a lack of inspiration. When you seem ready to create but realise that you’re completely empty, your energy is at zero and you blame yourself for not creating anything new.

4. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment as an artist?

I’m not one to brag. But now I think it’s a great achievement that I’ve been noticed by a lot of unreal, successful and very creative people, I can only say that my achievement is that my art has started to be appreciated. So my whole journey is not in vain.

5. Who is one artist living or dead you wish you could speak to for an hour? What is one question you would ask them?

I have many favourite artists. But now, in this difficult time of my country’s war I would like more than ever to talk to the famous Ukrainian writer, artist and philosopher Taras Shevchenko. My favourite painting of his is ‘Katerina’. I would just thank him for his great cultural heritage, for the idea and the ability to love his country, which 200 years of Ukrainians have cherished and carried through generations.

6. In what way has crypto influenced your life and work?

Since I joined the crypto world, my life has definitely become better and brighter! I found a lot of cool people and joined a better community! There are certainly benefits, especially for artists, who get another opportunity to turn their work into money in the digital age.

7. What is one bad situation in the world that you wish you could improve?

The war in Ukraine, in my country. It is my pain now, it is the pain of all of Ukraine. The aggressor must be stopped, human lives must be saved. The war must roll over. Ukraine is a free independent country, I don’t understand why some neighboring country came and decided to take everything away from us.

8. What is one location in your country we all should visit at least once?

Ukraine is very colourful! One place is not enough to really feel its soul! But I would advise you to visit Ukrainian Carpathians. It is a very rich place of energy. There you can feel the connection with nature. You can truly feel the pristine nature.

9. How do you feel NFTs will influence the creator economy over the next decade?

When the “froth” around NFT technology settles, it should take an important place in the new digital economy, becoming a full-fledged means of protecting intellectual property. Cryptographic tokens will gradually come into new areas — these are the same smart contracts that will help in logistics, real estate and the land market as well. From an investment point of view, the NFT market is more liquid than the traditional art market, because the participants of the transaction don’t have to pay 5–10% commissions to brokers. So I think that economically NFT founders, those who survive, will be the most stable and independent.
